Some ways back, I dove into Owen K.C. Stephen’s Anachronistic Adventures line for Rogue Genius Games. All in all, a satisfying method of importing pulp-style heroes in a fantasy world. However, the classes as written lent themselves to a “strangers in a strange land” kind of game. If you wanted a “A Connecticut Yankee In King Arthur’s Court”, the books were just for you. While the rules basis is made for pulpy heroes, you can easily modify the rules to fit this day and age. Back then, this line of books was teased as a pulpy supplement to make your PF games more modern. Or at the very least, you could play as Ash Williams from Evil Dead/Army of Darkness! However, the creator himself admitted that the game relied on core PF rules and needed more to be its own setting and world. Thus, over the next couple years following release, mini playtests and other bits were released and the final version was originally brought to the public via a large bundle pack. However, it wasn’t till several updates cropped up till the content was more suited for its own independent game. A couple of weeks ago, the revised book was released in a bundle pack for the observant and lucky few to dive into. Fortunately, the book was later released in online stores like RPGNow for all to purchase. So, with fresh eyes and a better understanding of pathfinder, how does this updated book hold up? Especially considering it’s made with games independent of Paizo’s fantasy setting in mind, does it hold up on its own? Let’s roll some dice and find out!

Like many children in the 1990s, there weren’t too many book series that really garnered my attention. One of the many exceptions was a certain youth-oriented horror series by R.L. Stine, who was already famous for the “Fear Street” series (aimed towards Teenagers). Of course, I’m referring to the Goosebumps books. They were fun, creepy, and usually pretty campy. At times ,the scariest parts about the stories were the at-times graphic cover images. Despite how silly many view the books nowadays, one couldn’t help but admire the incredible following the books had in the 1990s through the early 2000s. While there have been attempts at recapturing that bit of lightning in a bottle with series like “Goosebumps Horrorland”, the massive explosion of popularity will match up to such a huge phenomenon. Considering the series was pretty much everywhere, countless bits of merchandise popped up all over. This included shirts, toys, a television adaptation, and even a laughable stage adaptation (that was thankfully short lived.) While some parts of the popularity boom sucked (including waves of imitators), others were truly memorable for many reasons!
However, I’m not here to talk about those things so much as one of the video games adapted as a sequel of sorts to “One Day at Horrorland”, the story of the Morris family trying to survive a demented amusement park ran by deranged monsters. Needless to say, the family escapes from wicked rides and a diabolic game show before one of the monsters offers them tickets for another visit! The game picks up afterwards where those tickets have magically showed up again. Against better judgement, Lizzy Morris (from the original story) decides to study them, only for their dark magick to take its toll and abduct the whole family (and Cole, a neighborhood friend) back to Horrorland! Grab a ticket and join me on this thrill ride!
I see the bad moon rising… falling!
Just like its predecessor, The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask received an upgrade for the current gaming generation. This game adds significant adjustments to gameplay, graphics, and even quests. While there isn’t too much “new” content, it still feels like a slightly different experience. This title, based on the 2000 title for the N64, is one of the most beloved in the Legend of Zelda series. Like previous entries, this game radically changes up the norm for the Zelda universe; the plot does not involve a fight between Zelda and Ganon, the antagonist is the Skull Kid you sought out in the introduction, and the stakes go beyond apocalyptic! Combined with the existential and occasionally macabre themes, this could very well be the darkest entry in the series. Combine that with unsettling fan theories and notorious fan fiction, and you get a celebrated game for the ages. However, we’re not here to talk about the original game so much as the “Enhanced Edition” (see what I did there?) for the 3DS handheld.
So far, 5th edition has been doing great in my book. It’s a new edition with new possibilities and new ground to explore. What better book for the job than the Dungeon Master’s Guide!? While this edition has been hitting crits everywhere so far, will the DMG have the same luck?
While the rumors about Fallout 4 have persisted for a couple years now, I recently went back to the most recent entry in the Fallout series! Thanks to youtubers like ShoddyCast and their “Fallout Lore” series, I’ve been more than excited for getting back to the wastelands! While I could easily write endless pages about the entire series, I want to focus New Vegas since I replayed it very recently. Let’s ride into the sunset with Fallout New Vegas!

Well, let it be known that I do not turn down requests… and ya know what? After I posted my comment, people still wanted me to do it anyway. To those who follow me via Tumblr, Twitter, WordPress, and beyond; I love you guys! I do this for you! But, I dunno… this is a test for me. Well, after I drink a sufficient amount of alcohol, let’s check out the 4th numbered installment of the world building franchise of Rollercoaster Tycoon!!
Lemme first babble about the series I loved! Way back in 1998, Chris Sawyer (the dude who made Railroad Tycoon) wanted to branch out his brand and nabbed a deal with Hasbro to make a Theme Park version of his successful classic Tycoon series! As such, a wonderful empire building series was born! After the third game, which resulting in a metric fuckton of legal shit, Sawyer vanished somewhere into the aether! Some time later, we were treated to the sadly sub-par 3D remake on the 3DS, which tried to add an awkward story element to the series. Luckily, the RCT2 Community already did this and did it much better! It was called the UCES! For those out of the loop, it was a fan-based expansion pack for the second Rollercoaster Tycoon game and it was glorious! The story was kinda existent, but who cares? You’re here to make cool theme parks! But, after RCT 3D came and went, what then? There was nothing! The 3DS remake bombed and we would likely never see another game again. Fast forward early this year, I hear about a 4th game! “Imagine that”, I thought! Whelp, I finally got the chance to dive deeper! MORE AFTER THE JUMP!!!
I won’t deny it, the BioShock games have been among my favorite games ever created! I’m a super fan on many levels! So many factors have lead to the appeal for me; dystopian settings, failed utopias, political/social intrigue, fascinating settings, beautiful set design, wonder art aesthetics, and of course retro-futuristic punk settings! But, there’s a lot more to the series to that! A mix of wonderful moments and pitfalls as well. So, let’s go somewhere beyond the sea and into the sky with the BioShock series!

For those who’ve kept up with the BioShock universe, every installment is a vicious cycle of character torment. And now, the series comes full circle! The last chapter in the wibbly-wobbly series of BioShock is finished. The gaps have (for the most part) been filled and the two settings have truly united. And now, we’re making our final stops to Columbia and Rapture. The party may be over, but let’s take one final journey below the sea! This time, we navigate Rapture as Elizabeth during the prologue of the Rapture Civil War.
